Wildfires raging across the West are claiming lives, destroying homes, and threatening the Pacific Crest Trail.
The Pacific Crest Trail Association, which monitors fires burning along the trail and posts news of closures, said on its website that the Klamathon Fire has closed the trail for nearly 17 miles in southern Oregon from I-5 to Highway 66/Green Springs Summit.
As of Wednesday the fire was 97 percent contained. One person has died and 82 structures have been destroyed, ...
