Yes, I fixed my phone. It turns out that Android keeps a sort of index of all your pictures, separate from the pictures themselves. And this index can get corrupted. Because programmers are lazy, nothing traps the error usefully, and so WordPress and other apps would simply crash. The Great Divide Basin in Wyoming is a section of trail road that not too many hikers speak highly of. This is due to the heat, exposure, and lack of water while trudging through nearly 120 miles of desert. Temperatures were regularly pushing 90 and shade was less common than a reliable water source. However, the basin was consistently flat which, after hiking through all the mountains of Colorado, was a welcome change of pace. The openness of the land constantly had me in awe with nothing and no one around for miles.

In a breakthrough for environmentalists on Friday, a federal appeals court struck down two major decisions that would have allowed a natural gas pipeline to slice through Jefferson National Forest.
The project would route a 300-mile natural gas pipeline, currently under construction, through Jefferson National Forest near the Virginia-West Virginia border. The woodlands that would be impacted are in Giles and Montgomery counties in Virginia and Monroe County in West Virginia. The pipeline’s route through the national forest will also take it under the Appalachian Trail atop Peters Mountain. ...

On July 18, Harvey Lewis finished his FKT attempt on the Appalachian Trail. His 49 day, 15 hour hike is the 8th fastest all time. The section of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDT) that was destroyed in the 2017 Alice Creek fire was recently repaired by several generous volunteers. The Alice Creek fire tore through about 30,000 acres last year, destroying trail infrastructure along with a major sign noting the significance of Lewis and Clark Pass.
Recently, volunteers played their part in the restoration of this section. The four-day restoration project was put together by Montana Wilderness Association and the Continental Divide Trail Coalition. ...

Wildfires raging across the West are claiming lives, destroying homes, and threatening the Pacific Crest Trail.
The Pacific Crest Trail Association, which monitors fires burning along the trail and posts news of closures, said on its website that the Klamathon Fire has closed the trail for nearly 17 miles in southern Oregon from I-5 to Highway 66/Green Springs Summit.

A hiker was flown to the hospital after falling 100 feet from McAfee’s Knob in Roanoke County on Wednesday afternoon. According to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue, crews were called to McAfee’s Knob summit in the Masons Cove area just before 4:00 p.m. for a man in his 60’s.

Stratton Mountain, Killington, and even Glastenberry have been a challenge, but they serve to get us ready for the Whites. Having completed Katahdin and the 100 mile wilderness, I’ve realized mirrors are far crueler than front-facing cameras. Over the past seven days I got to watch nail polish chip, eyelashes lighten, and my eyebrows wash off. I had this idea I resembled a type of naked mole-rat without the eyebrows, but now that I’m 12 days in I’ve come to embrace the natural look, or at least fool myself into believing it!
