The numbers are daunting. About 70 percent of AT thru-hikers are men. Mostly twentysomething men. They dominate the shelters, the trail, the culture.
For men and women, hiking more than 2,000 miles is hard enough. But for many women, our challenge begins before we set foot on trail and continues throughout the hike. Our stamina is questioned.
