The Government Is Heading Toward a Shutdown: Here’s What it Means for the Appalachian Trail

As a result of the highly likely government shutdown that will occur at midnight ET on Saturday, Dec. 22, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy has made preparations with National Park Service partners.
Both the House and Senate adjourned Friday night after failing to reach a budget compromise with President Donald Trump that includes money to build a wall on the Mexican border.
Like other recent closures, this is considered a “soft” closure, which means the Appalachian Trail will be “closed but accessible” and have minimum staffing. ...
