Shenandoah National Park was one of my most enjoyable stretches of the Appalachian Trail. Constant views, well-maintained trails, plentiful wildlife, and easy resupply. To top it all off, a chance reunion in Front Royal provided me with a hiking partner who I haven’t seen since Monson, Maine.
Southern PA through Shenandoah is also one of the easiest stretches of the AT – elevation changes rarely exceed 1000 feet, and the ground is soft – making 25-mile days doable with sunlight to spare. ...
