Why Go SOBO: Perks to Going Against the Flow

Only 12 percent of Appalachian Trail thru-hikers last year hiked southbound from Maine to Georgia, and less than 1,500 thru-hikers have reported a successful southbound thru-hike in the entire history of the AT. While SOBOs may be few and far between, there are plenty of reasons future hikers should consider hiking the Appalachian Trail southbound.
