Enjoying the view while climbing Mount Madison
You have probably heard about the many attractive reasons to thru-hike the AT; however, there is also an ugly truth to their counterparts.
Great views – by far, most of the time is spent in thick forests without grand views
Meet awesome people – being away from friends and family for about 6 months can be tough
Abundant exercise – you can count on constantly being sore, tired, and hungry
See wildlife – you may get Lyme disease
New experiences – you are sure to miss out on experiences back home
Feel accomplished – you may feel you should be doing something more productive
Surrounded by likeminded individuals – friends and family at home cant relate to the experience
Limited cell service – having limited cell service can be frustrating when tying to keep in touch with people off trail or even when trying to make arrangements on trail
Finishing a challenge that less than 25% of people complete -realizing that hiking everyday for 5-7 months is not for you
