Appalachian Trail (AT) basics:
-2,200(ish) mile long trail between Maine and Georgia
-the entire trail must be completed within 12 months to be considered a “thru-hiker”
-of the thousands of hikers that attempt each year, about 25% succeed
-only about 10% of hikers travel southbound from ME to GA
-trips take 5-7 months on average to complete
-crosses through areas that allow for showers, food resupply, and phone charging every 4-10(ish) days
