According to recent studies by Harvard biological anthropologist Richard Wrangham it is hypothesized that humans evolved partly due to their ability to control fire and, in turn being able to cook food. In brief this adaptation allowed humans to externalize their digestion process by allowing fire to break down their food for them before it even entered their bodies.
